Welcome to the 2009 Track and Field Season

Welcome to the 2009 Track and Field Season.  I hope everyone is geared up for a fun and exciting season.  Here are the things you need to know for the upcoming season:
1.      Conditioning starts on Tuesday January 20th at 3:20 PM.  We will meet up at the track, unless it is raining in which case we will meet in the weight room.  We will hold conditioning  M-F.  Practice times are 3:20 on M,T, Thur, Fri, and 1:45 on Wed.  Please wear suitable workout clothes and running shoes (not spikes and preferably not basketball, tennis, or skateboard shoes). If you don't have running shoes and aren't sure what they are ask one of the coaches.  Big 5 and Sportsmart carry a wide range of appropriate running shoes. Also be prepared for cooler weather in January and Feb..  Please pack a pair sweats (top and bottom) and bring beanies and gloves if you have them.
2.     If you do not have a physical from a fall sport, you will need to get one for track.
3.     What is "conditioning" and why are we doing it?  Conditioning is non-event specific training that we will all do as a team to get us ready for event specific training in February.  It includes
  • drills, stretching, some distance running, some hill work, circuit training and weights.  It will also include some fun inter-team games and competitions.
We are doing conditioning because spring sports (e.g. track and field) can't officially start practicing until Feb. 10.
